Common Book 2019

Every year, Jayhawks read a single book that speaks to the current moment and sparks a campuswide conversation.

READERS GUIDE

Navigate the core ideas, themes,
and events in Tales of Two Americas

An introduction to intellectual life for KU’s newest Jayhawks

Throughout the summer and academic year, first-year students live with the KU Common Book, unpack it through conversation with peers and educators, and develop complex ideas and new perspectives inspired by the work.

This year’s KU Common Book, Tales of Two Americas: Stories of Inequality in a Divided Nation, is a multi-genre collection that captures, through various lenses, the state of the American dream. Jayhawks will explore that broad theme through discussion groups, lectures, and other events.
