Parents & Guests
Parent and guest orientation is designed to provide the tools and resources you need to support your Jayhawk’s first year. At orientation, you will learn about your student’s academic opportunities and expectations. Students attend an advising and enrollment appointment with a professional academic advisor later in the afternoon. Parents and guests do not attend advising with their student, since this allows the student to begin developing a strong relationship with their academic advisor. While students meet with their advisor, parents and guests learn more about a variety of campus opportunities, including:
- Health, wellness, and safety resources
- Academic support strategies
- Tools for living and thriving on campus, including housing, dining, parking, and more
- Individual consultations with financial aid advisors
- Opportunities to explore campus museums and attractions
We strongly encourage parents and family members to attend orientation with their student. College is an exciting and challenging transition. It is important to support your student through the process. Your student should register any parent or guest through the student registration portal. Every orientation is a one-day event. All orientation programs take place in the Kansas Union and start at 7:30 a.m. Plan to be on campus until 5:00 p.m. to allow time for your student to meet with an academic advisor, enroll in classes and explore all the University of Kansas has to offer.
