Monday, January 16th

Civil Rights Activism Arts Showcase
Kansas Union Hours of Operation
Kansas Union Gallery, 4th Floor of Kansas Union
 
Gallery space in the Kansas Union will be open from Jan. 16th - Jan. 29th for the public to explore during the regular hours of operation at the Kansas Union. Event is sponsored by the Kansas Union.
 
MLK Candlelight Vigil
4:30pm - 6:30pm
Strong Hall Rotunda
 
Participants in the MLK Candlelight Vigil with travel from the Strong Hall Rotunda to the Kansas Union Ballroom. There will be a panel as well as a performance by the Genuine Imitation. Event is sponsored by the Office of Diversity and Equity.

KU Fit Free Week of Classes
1/17 - 1/22*
Ambler Student Recreation Fitness Center
 
Come try out the Spring 2017 KU Fit schedule! Lots of different classes - yoga, BodyPump, cycle and more! Workout with others while having some fun! You don't have to do it alone! *Times for this event vary based off of the KU Fit Class Schedule.
 
Strong Hall Welcome Back Table
7:45am - 4:00pm
Strong Hall Rotunda

Staff and Administration from across campus will be in the Strong Hall Rotunda to greet and help new and continuing students. There will be information related to transportation, navigating campus and class schedules, as well as refreshments for students.

Hot Cider
10:00am - 1:00pm
Kansas Union, 4th Floor

On the first day of classes the Office of First-Year Experience will be passing out hot cider and Winter Welcome mugs on the 4th floor of the Kansas Union Traditions Area to welcome students back to campus.

 
CREATE Program

Ballard Community Center (708 Elm St. Lawrence, KS 66044)
 
The CREATE program offers students the chance to work with preschool age children on art related projects and is apart of the Art Engagement and Education branch of the Center for Community Outreach. This event will be hosted by the Center for Community Outreach. *This event will take place on Jan. 17th & Jan. 18th as well.
 
KU Common Book Discussion
3:30pm - 4:30pm
Spencer Museum of Art

This KU Common Book Discussion will cover this year's common book, Between the World and Me, by Ta-Nehisi Coates. This is an opportunity for students to discuss topics and themes relevant to the book and the relation with our campus.

First-Generation Open House
6:00pm - 8:00pm
Sabatini Multicultural Resource Center

The purpose of this Open House is to connect first-generation students with other first-year, first-generation students along with faculty, staff, and upper-classmen who are also first-generation. This will be an informal event with dinner provided and various stations for students to learn more about opportunities for research, graduate school, campus involvement, financial aid and scholarships, and much more.

 

Wednesday, January 18th

Strong Hall Welcome Back Table

Experience what it means to belong at KU. Mingle with other students while becoming acquainted with the newly renovated Spencer Museum of Art. Refreshments provided.

Throwback Thursday is an opportunity to relax with your peers in the Sabatini Multicultural Resource Center with solidarity songs. This event is sponsored by the Office of Multicultural Affairs.
 
Tea @ 3 with MLK Speech Screening

Tea and other refreshments will be provided as well as a screening of the MLK Speech, "I Have A Dream". This event is sponsored by Student Union Activities.
